Surrounding the medieval hill town of Mondovì is an area known as the Monregalese. Its breathtaking landscape ranges from chestnut covered mountains near the Alps to grapevine covered hills in the Langhe wine country .

Castles and baroque churches are common sights in the Monregalese. Among them, the Castello Reale di Valcasotto, a favorite summer palace of the House of Savoia, and the Santuario di Vicoforte, a baroque masterpiece considered to be Piemonte's most important church.

At the heart of the Monregalese is the beautiful town of Mondovì, which during the 16th century was Piemonte's largest and most important city. Today, its historic center, called Mondovì Piazza, offers outstanding medieval and gothic architecture, museums, cafés and stunning views of the Langhe and the Alps.
