Churches & Frescoes

The Monregalese is home to hundreds of churches and chapels from the Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque periods. The Santuario di Regina Montis Regalis in Vicoforte is considered by many to be the most important example of the Piemontese Baroque style. in Mondovì, the 17th century Chiesa della Missione Piazza is known for its magnificent interior art by Andrea Pozzo, master of perspective painting.

Many extraordianary frescoes from the 15th and 16th centuries can be found in the Monregalese. The best known examples are the Chiesa di San Fiorenzo in Bastia Mondovì and the Cappella della Santa Croce in Mondovì.

Further afield in Cuneo Provinces's Maira Valley, there are late 15th and early 16th century frescoes by artists such as Hans Clemer and Giovanni Baleison. In the town of Elva, Clemer's frescoes inside the Church of S. Maria Assunta are spectacular.
