Slow Food

Slow Food was founded by Carlo Petrini in 1986 and is headquartered in Cuneo Province, in the town of Bra. Originally started to counter fast-food culture, the Slow Food movement has grown world-wide with its goal of promoting good, clean food for everyone on the planet. The Slow Food philosophy of eating locally grown, traditional foods is alive and well in the Monregalese. Here you can find traditional products still crafted like they were once upon a time.

The local chapter of Slow Food in the Monregalese actively promotes products from Slow Food's Ark of Taste, which is a catalog of heritage foods in danger of extinction. Some local gastronomic legacies on the Ark of Taste list include, Cappone di Morozzo (Capon of Morozzo), Paste di Meliga (Corn meal cookies) and Razza Piemontese (Piemontese breed cattle).

In addition to organizing educational events and courses such as the Master of Food ® and Laboratori del Gusto ®, the local chapter collaborates on gastronomic events including Mondov's annual food and truffle festival, Peccati di Gola. With the cooperation of local chefs and restaurants, Slow Food also sponsor theme dinners based on Monregalese specialties.

The town of Carrù is famous for Its annual Fiera del Bue Grasso. Literally meaning Fair of the Fat Ox, it is a celebration of the local Piemontese Breed cattle. The century-old event includes a contest among local farmers for the largest beast. Both wining and losing animals are auctioned off to local restaurants.

The festival culminates with the Gran Bollito Misto, a boiled dinner composed of seven cuts of meat and seven accompanying sauces.
