In the Langhe, wine represents history, tradition and is an integral part of the culture. Centuries ago farmers planted these hills with Dolcetto, Nebbiolo and Barbera vines and the wine they produced was extraordinary. In fact, the wine was so good that the farmers traded it for products from other regions, like Fontina cheese from Val d'Aosta, anchovies from Genoa and salt from Savona. These ingredients play important roles in the tradtional cooking of the Langhe. Classic dishes like Bagna CaƓda and Fonduta con Tartufo Bianco came about as a result of the demand for Langhe wine. |
| |
Today the Langhe is still producing extraordinary wine. Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera and Dolcetto are some of the best known local wines. The Langhe is comprised of all the vinicultural towns located within Cuneo province. The territory is divided into D.O.C. and D.O.C.G. wine-growing zones. |
