The story of Villa Favolosa begins in 1653 when the house was built by Luigi Roà, a landowner who produced Dolcetto wine and cultivated grapes, chestnuts and fruit for local markets. Signor Roà chose to build here because of the location looking out over the Roburentello Valley.

That original house was expanded over the years and has been passed down from generation to generation in the Roà Family. After the second World War, the villa was transformed into a pensione. Pensione Roà was a popular summer destination for city dwellers from Turin and Genoa who were looking for a tranquil place to enjoy the cool, fresh air and the hearty cooking of the Langhe Monregalesi.

More than 350 years later, the house is still owned by the Roà Family and we have lovingly restored and renovated Villa Favolosa in order to continue our family's tradition of offering our guests the best of Piemontese hospitality.

Take a Virtual Tour of Montaldo di Mondovì

Montaldo di Mondovì was founded in the year 1000 and is located in the Province of Cuneo in southwestern Piemonte. The town is comprised of a series of borgate (hamlets) that hug the hillsides of the Roburentello and Corsaglia Valleys. Our borgata, Roapiana, is centered around the church of San Giuseppe which dates back to 1626.

As the name suggests, Montaldo di Mondovì shares a history with the nearby city of Mondovì,  which in the 17th century was the largest and one of the most important cities in all of Piemonte.

Fortunately, Mondovì has remained untouched by mass tourism and offers visitors a genuine experience of Italian life. Stroll the charming cobblestone streets, shop under the medieval porticos of Breo and then take the funicular railway to the upper Piazza and have a caffè in the magnificent square.
